Change It Idea Update: Solidarity with Cuba

Do you want to join the debate? We're looking for interested UoL students, who wish to speak against this idea to share their thoughts at Guild Summit.

Change ItGuild Summit

A recent submission to the Guild’s Change It platform, entitled Stand in Solidarity with the Cuban Student Movement ! has reached 20 upvotes. This means, it will be going to our decision-making forum, Guild Summit, for student consideration on Tuesday 21st April.

Guild Summit is a student-led discussion event, in which 50 randomly selected students are invited to decide next steps for the idea. At Summit, we invite the student who proposed the idea to speak in support of it, and also invite those with opposing views to get in touch for the opportunity to speak against the idea. Student decision-makers will then discuss the idea and will use consensus decision-making to explore an outcome.

We are asking any interested UoL students, who wish to speak against this idea, to get in touch with the Democracy Team via democracy@liverpool.ac.uk by 9am on Thursday 16th April. If more than 1 student puts themselves forward for this, you will be put in touch with one another to coordinate this.

You would need to be available to attend the event in person in the Guild on Tuesday 21st April at 5.00pm. The whole event lasts approximately 3 hours - we do encourage speakers to stay for the duration; however this is not compulsory if you have another commitment. Speakers are given the chance to do a 3-minute speech, following which attendees can ask questions. The speaker for each side of the idea is also invited to provide additional written supporting evidence for attendees to read.

If you have any questions about how Summit works or this opportunity, please get in touch with us at democracy@liverpool.ac.uk
