We know the financial implications of COVID have been difficult for students, particularly when it comes to rent for accommodation. After months of lobbying the University, in December we launched the Refund the Rent campaign, calling on the University to share the financial burden students faced and set the precedent for accommodation providers across the city.
Students did not stay silent on these issues and with 750 petition signatures, a widespread social media campaign and meetings with University Senior Leaders, the University of Liverpool has now agreed to offer rent rebates until 14th February 2021 and to release students from their tenancy agreements in University halls.
Whilst this is a huge win, the campaign is not over and we are now extending the campaign to Private Accommodation Providers. Teaming up with JMSU and Liverpool Hope SU, we are calling on Purpose Build Student Accommodation Providers to do the right thing and support their tenants.
