Don’t dump it, donate it!

Leave Liverpool Tidy is our yearlong project, in collaboration with British Heart Foundation and Fareshare, that helps give you opportunities to donate your unwanted items and transform your trash into someone else’s treasure. From donations to swap shops and litter picks to support your community, there are lots of ways you can get involved with the project and help leave our city shining.

A Bin-credible year

Now in its 12th year, we want to continue to build on all of the incredible donations and reduce waste in the city even further. Here’s what we achieved last year…

The Countdown is on: The Big End of Year Clear Out

The time has come to start thinking about clearing out your houses/halls/rooms and getting ready for your next step, whether that’s moving down the road or taking the leap to a new adventure. Leave Liverpool tidy is back, in collaborating with British Heart Foundation and Fareshare, to help make your clear out a little bit easier – and more sustainable!

Here is your guide to donating this summer:

The way it works is quite simple, if you’re leaving Liverpool, you gather all the stuff that you do not wish to move to your new place (such as clothes, kitchen equipment, or housing decorations or tinned food), and bring them -using a reusable bag- to one of our drop-off points and fixed donation points and ourselves, BHF and Fareshare will collect them to be repurposed.

Donations Dos and Don’ts

Top Tip: Make sure all items are clean and dry ready to be recycled!

Bag your items in your green/yellow Leave Liverpool Tidy bag or clearly label your items for a Leave Liverpool Tidy donation so we don't miss it! You can pick up any extra donation bags from Guild Reception.

You can also donate your old tech items through Restore technology. You can drop your items to Guild Reception and we can donate.

We are working hard to make sure there are lots of ways you can easily donate your items and we will continue to update the page with donation points.

If you live in Kensington or Smithdown, our Guild team will be out to collect your donation on the 27th and 28th June. Please make sure all donations are left outside your house by 11am and ready for collection.

We will be collecting donations that are left out and we will have drop off points in your areas. On 27th and 28th June you can also drop off your items at Kensington Fields and Wavertree Sports Centre between 10am and 3pm.

Got lots of waste from your end of year clear out? There will be additional skips in the community 31st May – 2nd July in Smithdown and 27th – 30th June in Kensington.

LLT Pop Up Drop Off Points will be located in Guild Reception and University Halls, so you can drop off before you head out! Plus you can drop your unwanted books and food items to drop off points in the Harold Cohen and Syndey Jones libraries - the perfect goodbye to all-nighters!

We do our best to try and accept as many of your unwanted items but if we can’t collect it there are lots of other options for your donations.

  • For information about goods that cannot be donated, visit Liverpool Council website for guidance on what can be disposed of in your local bins.
  • Not all plastics can be recycled easily. Visit Terracycles website to find drop off points for materials that are not recycled by your local recycling company.
  • For bulky items that cannot be donated to British Heart Foundation, visit Liverpool City Council’s website and book a collection.
  • Smithdown Asda car park is host to a range of recycling and donation initiatives. If you live in Smithdown area, this is a great place to drop off unwanted items.
  • Students can request collections via environmentalservices@liverpool.gov.uk marking their email “Student Reclaim items”. This service is free of charge and the collections can be requested from Tuesday 6th May to 27th June.
