Hey UofL Dance Society!
As we come to the end of an amazing year, we want to take a moment to talk about the fantastic achievements of the society this year. It has been filled with so much talent, memories, fun and everyone should be so proud of how far they have come. None of this would have been possible without the amazing 651 members we’ve had this year. So, let’s reflect on everything we have accomplished this year.
Classes
This year we are proud to say we have had 22 weeks of classes with over 10 styles of dance each week. We had a phenomenal attendance of 209 dancers per week in semester one and 172 in semester two. We have had over 4 themed weeks this year and have raised money for Alder Hey, Mencap, Children in Need, Macmillan, The Diana Award, Breast Cancer Now and The Royal National Institute of Blind People. Thank you to everyone for getting involved and sharing our love for dance.
Winter and Spring showcase
This year we had two incredible showcases, organised by our wonderful Performance Coordinator. Our winter showcase was themed ‘Dystopian’ and showcased our wonderful talent and passion for dancing while raising money for Alder Hey Children’s hospital in which we raised an astonishing £1214. Our spring showcase ‘A night on the West End’ showcased our competition pieces, classes and had a beautiful feature from Pole and Aerial society too. We also had an amazing performance from Mencap, who we also raised £1754 for across the two shows.
Competition season 2026
This competition season has been a record-breaking season for our society. The dedication and passion from these dancers helped us achieve incredible outcomes and we are so so proud of every dancer. We competed at 4 competitions including York, Manchester, Northumbria and our home competition held in Liverpool. With 11 teams this year we took home 54 trophies, with 27 first places, 9 second places and 4 third place trophies. We won the title of best overall uni at 3 competitions and won numerous other prizes including 4 judges choice awards, 2 best concept pieces, audience favourite, 2 best costumes, dance it out winner and best male dancer. None of this would’ve be possible without the support and energy from the whole society and the dedication from everyone working behind the scenes to make these events possible. We want to say a massive thank you to our wonderful Competition Coordinators, this wouldn’t have been possible without them and these beautiful girls helped guide us all year. We hope you cherish these memories forever and you all deserve an enormous congratulations and well-earned summer break!
Socials and fun
This year has been so fun in and out of the dance studio. Organised by our lovely Social Secretaries we’ve had 15 socials across the year! We’ve made so many great memories and everyone has delivered with some fantastic costumes. Some of our favourite from this year include the grapes social, dance moms and our iconic Dads social! We have also held 5 super fun sober socials, including Galentines bracelet making, the Christmas quiz and competition sign painting. We’ve all had the best time together and we can’t wait for more socials next year! This year we’ve had two gorgeous balls, our spring ball and winter ball, organised by our two amazing Presidents. They have been such lovely occasions to get together, celebrate our achievements and spend time together in a fun, relaxing atmosphere.
AGM
Recently we have had our annual general meeting, to meet our committee for next year and hear their manifestos! Everyone’s speeches were amazing so make sure you vote for your choice for next year’s committee, your voice matters! Also we want to say a massive thank you to this year’s committee for all their hard work this year, to make Dance Society possible and fun for everyone!
