January is upon us, the sparkly lights have faded, it’s no longer acceptable to have chocolate for breakfast, mince pies have gone back into hiding and on top of it all deadline and exam season has arrived. We understand that this time of year can be particularly tough, filled with meal deals and moving in to your study space of choice, but we’re here to help every step of the way!

Here are our Exam Top Tips to help see you through:

Find your perfect study space

Whether you’re Grove Wing’s biggest fan, a bedroom student, over a coffee or committed to the Courtyard; there’s lots of space across campus and the city for you to find the study space that works for you.

Top Tips: Comfort is key!  Make sure you’ve got enough space to spread out your notes, have enough light and a comfortable chair. Deadline and Exam season is a marathon not a sprint.

Plan your time

With multiple deadlines and exams across January, planning your time is more important than ever. Trying to get your brain around exams and deadlines can be overwhelming, break down your tasks into manageable chunks and split across the days you have before your deadline (we all know that this varies between students!) and tick it off as you go.

Take regular breaks

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: TAKE REGULAR BREAKS!

Cramming for hours on end can be counterproductive to your learning and wellbeing – if you were training for a marathon you wouldn’t run constantly for 24/7 would you?

Studies have shown that for long term retention, especially revision, taking regular breaks like going for a walk, getting a change of scenery or watching one (emphasis on ONE) episode of your favourite show can really help.

Everyone’s pattern is different so make sure to plan your breaks when work best for you.

Stay Hydrated

This is important all year round but especially in exam season, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water to keep you hydrated and your brain sharp.

Balance the caffeine out please!

Laugh!

We know that it might be difficult to find the funny side of this time of year but laughing helps to relax you, lower stress levels and even helps you to get a good night’s sleep, all of the essentials after a long day in the library.

Try to do at least one thing per revision day to make you laugh; watch your favourite Netflix show, catch up with your friends or even scroll on TikTok
