Empowering and Inclusive: Self-Defence Classes at the Guild

Self-Defence ClassesVasilikiVasiliki blog

As part of my campaign promise, I am proud to highlight the success of the self-defence classes recently hosted at the Guild as part of the Guild’s Give it a Go programme. These classes not only provided valuable skills for personal protection but also fostered inclusivity and created an atmosphere of empowerment for students.

The primary objective of the self-defence classes was to equip individuals with practical techniques to protect themselves and boost their confidence. This is something that I would have loved to participate in as a student, so I wanted to ensure that the instructors taught a variety of techniques suitable for individuals of all levels.

Beyond self-defence skills, the classes at the Guild provided an excellent opportunity for students to meet new people and forge new friendships. They also acted as a great break from exam season pressure and assignments. The interactive nature of the classes encouraged participants to partner up, practice techniques together, and engage in friendly competitions.

Due to all four sessions selling out and the great feedback we received, I am looking to continue these sessions in the new academic year. I want to continue empowering students, fostering an inclusive environment, and building a safe and fun community.
