Got an idea to make University life better?
We could help make it happen.

Change It is a platform that gives each and every student the opportunity to share ideas which will have a positive impact on your time at University.

Tell us what your suggestion is – no matter how big or small – and we will use our democratic processes to support your suggestion every step of the way. Your idea could be the next catalyst for change on our campus!

Vote, comment & participate!

Once your idea has been approved, it's over to you to spread the word and get campus voting - and talking about your idea! Once your idea has received 20 'upvotes' – which tells us other students like and support it - we will get to work. Students are also able to down vote an idea, however this doesn't impact if your idea progresses through the process, it just gives students a chance to share both sides of the debate. Students who downvote an idea will be invited to share their thoughts and campaign against the idea.

Submissions stay live and open for votes on our website for 2 weeks once they've been approved, so make sure you get people voting on your idea!

Ideas

Students can submit an idea if they want the Guild to have policy on a particular issue, or campaign or work on a particular matter. Ideas can be about a wide range of things; including the Guild, University and the wider community. This can range from simple, operational ideas to larger scale campaigns. Submitting an idea is also the way to get the matter discussed at Guild Summit.

    Artificial Intelligence? No thanks!

Artificial intelligence has become a growing part of student life, but what are the consequences? - ChatGPT queries use ten times as much energy as Google searches, with more complex queries using even more (EPRI, 2024). - The number of data centres needed to support increased use of AI/LLMs in the UK is set to increase by almost a fifth, including one in Herefordshire that will be built on a greenbelt (Kleinman & Shveda, 2025). - AI/LLMs are also increasingly used to outright replace the work of humans within managerial and academic spaces, in the name of efficiency and productivity. This is contributing to the lack of graduate opportunities. - AI/LLMs are increasingly sourcing data from works without the original authors' consent. Turnitin, the software used to upload your academic work, recently proposed a policy change to train its AI using students' intellectual property. This Change-It proposes: - Generative AI companies (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) are added to the Guild's media sales exclusions policy. - The Guild actively encourages students and staff to avoid Gen.AI for marketing materials (e.g., society logos/posters). - The Guild will lobby the University not to actively encourage or promote AI/LLMs tools to students and staff or to accept sponsorships that promote the use of AI/LLMs. - The Guild will lobby the University for an AI 'opt-out' clause for students on their assessments. Students should not be penalised for opting out.
