Empower, Engage, Elevate: Your Voice, Our Vision!

Dear Fellow Students,

I am Shahzeb Aslam, and I am running for the esteemed position of Guild President. With a deep passion for supporting student welfare and advocating for positive change, I am committed to championing your interests and addressing the pressing issues affecting our community.

As your Guild President, I will:

  • Prioritize Mental Health Support: I understand the importance of mental well-being in academic success. I will work tirelessly to enhance mental health resources on campus, ensuring that every student has access to the support they need.
  • Combat the Cost of Living Crisis: The rising cost of living disproportionately impacts students. I will collaborate with university administration and local authorities to explore practical solutions to alleviate financial burdens, such as affordable housing options and financial assistance programs.
  • Enhance Campus Safety, Especially at Night: Safety should never be compromised, especially during late-night activities. I will advocate for improved lighting, increased security measures, and enhanced transportation options to ensure that students feel safe and secure on campus, day or night.
  • Foster Transparent Governance: I believe in transparency and accountability. I will work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure that the Guild operates efficiently and effectively, always prioritizing the needs and concerns of students.
  • Amplify Student Voices: Your voices matter. I will actively engage with students through regular meetings, open forums, and surveys to understand your concerns and advocate for solutions that reflect our collective interests.

Samuel Gordon-Boyle

**Manifesto for Guild Student Election:**

Greetings fellow students,

I am thrilled to present my manifesto for the University of Liverpool's Guild Student Election. I will treat the role with integrity's and dignity.

Drawing upon my experiences as the President of Model United Nations and Student President of my school I am well aware of conversation with school governors and the guild. Furthermore I received  recognition through the Jack Petchy award for charity fundraising for the war in Ukraine. I bring a robust foundation of leadership and advocacy to this role.

**Key Policies:**

1. **Integration of GP Sign-Ups into Welcome Week:** Healthcare accessibility is paramount. I propose the seamless integration of GP sign-ups into our Welcome Week activities. By prioritizing student health from the outset, we ensure a proactive approach to well-being.

2. **Enhanced Financial Transparency for Societies:** Transparency fosters accountability. I pledge to enhance financial transparency for societies by implementing publicly accessible finance reports. This initiative empowers societies with the knowledge and resources needed for responsible budget management.

3. **Solidarity with Striking Lecturers:** Our educators deserve fair treatment. I stand in unwavering solidarity with striking lecturers, advocating for their rights and fair treatment. Their well-being is inseparable from the quality of education we strive to uphold.

4. **Expansion of Night Bus Scheme:** Safety and accessibility are non-negotiable. I am committed to expanding the night bus scheme, providing students with a safe and reliable mode of transportation during late hours.

In conclusion, my vision for the Guild Student Election centers on inclusivity, transparency, and student welfare. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering commitment, I am confident that together, we can create a vibrant and supportive community for all students. Your support in this endeavor is invaluable, and together, let us embark on a journey towards a brighter and more equitable future.

Owen Croft

What’s happening, everyone? I’m Owen, a student from Liverpool and standing on a
socialist platform, to be your student officer. With the cost of living crisis, students need an
officer to link the student's and workers' struggles.

I will work with local trade unions and student campaigns, locally and nationally to work on
these 4 key socialist pledges:

1. End Food Poverty for Students - Students have felt the brunt of the cost of living
crisis, with 30% of students forced to skip meals. Working together with local trade
unions, I will fight to expand the food pantry services at the university and for meals
to be freely available within the guild. However, to end the need for food services I
will fight for the reintroduction of inflation-linked grants.

2. Public Transport for the Students - Public transport is a necessity for students,
allowing easy transportation to university and work, and further promoting
sustainable alternatives to car usage. To create a transport system that works for
students, I will fight to expand night bus services and for a publicly owned transport
system to make public transport affordable and accessible.

3. Abolish the Re-Sit Cap - It is unfair to allow students only one attempt to achieve
their potential during exams. The re-sit marking cap only contributes to undue
increased stress, and disadvantages students who run into personal problems before
exams.

4. Fight for Higher Education for All! - The substantial cost of university only acts as
a barrier to higher education. As a student officer, I will fight to build a national
student movement, linked up with the trade union movement to scrap tuition fees,
end the marketisation of education, make accommodation affordable for students,
and replace maintenance loans with inflation-linked grants.

Thank you for reading.

Dedication, Determination, Diversity: Our Path to Success!

Firstly, I would prioritize inclusivity by ensuring that all voices are heard and represented in decision-making processes. This means actively seeking input from diverse perspectives and creating spaces where everyone feels valued and included.

Secondly, I am committed to fostering innovation by promoting collaboration and experimentation. I believe that by encouraging creativity and embracing new ideas, we can find innovative solutions to complex challenges and drive progress within our community.

Lastly, I am passionate about sustainability and would work towards implementing environmentally friendly practices in all aspects of our operations. This includes reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices that minimize our impact on the planet.

I love speaking to people, learning new things, and solving problems. I have a background in languages (Spanish, German, French & Mandarin), and I am always excited to explore new ways of living, thinking, and creating.

As a current Data Science & AI Student, I recognise that the technology of today is rapidly changing the way in which we live, work and study. It is the responsibility of our university to prepare us for the future, and I want to do my best to ensure that students can leave Liverpool with the skills, opportunities, and experiences they need to thrive.

A vote for Alex Keyter as guild president is a vote for:

  • Graduate Jobs, Internships and Part Time Work opportunities made possible through partnerships with local businesses, social enterprises, and start-ups.

  • An AI Aware Curriculum, so that students can be better prepared to use AI responsibly and effectively in the workplace of tomorrow.

  • Affordable Food on Campus – Helping students through the cost-of-Living Crisis by reducing the cost of food on campus & providing more microwaves and hot water stations.

  • Improved Wellbeing and Accessibility Services on campus, to ensure that all students can access the support they need, whenever they need it.

  • Reformed Society Management Systems - Putting in place efficient systems and processes that enable societies to be their best and run the events that their members want, without the hassle.

Together, we can forge a Liverpool that embraces community spirit, excels in technological innovation, and ensures student well-being at its core.

Shamun Abdullah

@vote4shamun

Hello, I'm Shamun Abdullah, running for Student Officer. My vision is to enhance our university life, focusing on well-being and personal growth beyond the classroom. I firmly believe that university life should extend beyond mere lectures and exams; it should serve as a vital springboard for your entire life journey.
As a master's student, I've seen our struggles firsthand: overloaded schedules leave little space for exploration, especially for international students juggling jobs and internships. It's time for a change, and I propose four key commitments:
Flexible Learning: I'll push for asynchronous learning and streamlined timetables, giving you the freedom to balance studies, work, and personal life. I plan to host workshops to tailor solutions to each program's unique needs.
Enhanced International Student Support: Recognizing the heightened financial challenges faced by international students, I will vigorously advocate for a fair review of international student fees by university leadership. This ensures equitable access to our world-class education. Furthermore, I'll collaborate with relevant stakeholders to establish a comprehensive support network for international students, including enhanced access to career services, internship opportunities, and financial aid resources.
Prioritizing Mental Wellbeing: Mental health can't wait. I'll advocate for increased funding and improved accessibility of mental health services on campus, ensuring support is readily available to all who need it. Collaborating with student societies and support groups, I'll bolster a robust network of resources and support systems.
Fostering Community Engagement: University life extends beyond academics, and I'll work to strengthen our sense of community. By organizing cultural exchange events and workshops, I'll create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all students. Moreover, I'll actively support student societies, amplifying their voices and ensuring their activities are well-resourced, enriching our campus life.
Vote for Shamun Abdullah. Together, we can build a brighter, more supportive university experience.

My main priority is to make sure that student voices are heard. Within my policies I will make the University much more sustainable and help with the cost-of-living crisis that is affecting all students.

My key policies:

Improve the University and guilds sustainability policies

- Net zero by 2035
- Increase pressure on the university to cut emissions

Improved and cheaper bus services (free 699)

 - Cheaper student bus travel
- Free 699 travel for all students
- Create a bus service to Leahurst

Cheaper and more inclusive food options around campus)

- Cheaper food around campus
- More inclusive food options (gluten free, halal, plant based, etc)

Improve university accommodation and increase support on student tenants’ rights (reduce the rent)

- Reduce student accommodation costs
- Increase support on student tenants’ rights

Ethical investments

- Get the university to stop funding fossil fuels

The cost-of-living crisis is affecting us all, and with graduates expected to pay more back in the future, something needs to be done now. We need universities to be more affordable through housing, transport, and food. It is urgent that students are supported through this, and that it becomes affordable. It is important that universities become more sustainable, due to the impact the climate crisis will have on the globe. The University needs to take this seriously!

I am always happy to listen to others’ concerns and stand up for people’s rights. I will take an active role in discussions around social issues and will make sure our voices are heard.

Don't Miss, Vote Chris !

Hi!
I’m Chris
, I study environmental science and I'm running for Student Officer as I’m passionate about making the Guild and university more sustainable, and creating a greener campus. Being a course rep in environmental science and having done an internship with the campus gardening and sustainability teams have really affirmed this interest.

Key Commitments:

  • More green space -  with wildflower patches, gardening space, dedicated gardening staff
  • Cycle routes to student areas & parks - Smithdown, better link to Kensington & parks
  • Green switches - seasonal guild food, a seach engine that plants trees, local relationships

The main focus of my campaign is on sustainability, though I’m also looking forward to working on other issues through the variety of boards I’ll be on in this role, including: challenging prejudices such as racism, transphobia and misogyny; inclusion; mental and physical health.
I’ll also continue work started by previous officers on Guild food affordability and sustainability, fossil fuel divestment (and look into sustainable investment), and be adaptable to issues that arise during the role. Easier wins I’d also chase are energy use (lights and PC’s being on all the time), restoring and giving out abandoned bikes on campus, more cigarette bins, and supporting the bike shop on campus.

Find me in person or online, or my leaflets, for more info :)

Real change!

Hi I am prepared to serve as your guild president because I am dedicated to achieve the goals I'm passionate about and this is what I aim to do if elected.

NO MORE DEADLINE OVERLAPS

We’ve all been in the position where we have
multiple assignments due within the same day! Lets
stop the burnout! I want to advocate for Module
leads to communicate with one another to ensure
students have time between assessments.

EXPAND BURSARY ELIGIBILITY

More students should be able access bursaries - this
should not be limited by merit or financial
background. I want to influence the uni to reduce the
restrictions of bursaries including financial
thresholds and merits and increase the fund to help
more students in a time of need.

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH HUB

We all know that uni gets hard sometimes and we
forget to prioritise how we feel. So, I want to introduce
a dedicated mental health space that allows students
to relax, talk about issues and find out more about our
mental health services provided by the Guild and the
uni.

LIVE-LOYAL REWARDS CARD

We all love a cheap drink! With the LivLoyal E-card,
every time you spend money at the Guild bar or the
Sphinx you get money off and discounts.

Societies can have stalls and performances, and who knows, we might even have celebrity appearances! ? 25,000+ students, one epic experience!

2. #UniWheels: Free University Bus

Ditch the expensive bus fares! #UniWheels is a free university bus service that'll roam a 5-mile radius, picking you up and dropping you off wherever you need to be.  No more sprinting to lectures or missing classes! It's time to reclaim your time and sanity.

3. #CampusCoinCollect: Sphinx Reward Program

Campus Coin Collect is my plan to earn points for every purchase at Sphinx! Redeem those points for free food or drinks!  It's a win-win: you get rewarded, and your wallet gets a break!

4. Free or Discounted Gym Access: Get Active, Feel Great!

Staying active is key, but gym memberships can be pricey.  That's why I'm fighting for free or discounted gym access! Whether you're a fitness fanatic or just starting, there will be an option that fits your budget and gets you moving!

I am Nikhil Rasmalla, running for Guild President in the upcoming student elections. I am not your typical candidate, I am the no-BS candidate,. My commitment is simple: I will ensure your voices are not only heard but valued and acted upon.

With three years of experience as the student representative during the challenging times of CoViD in my undergraduate years, I have firsthand experience in navigating complex issues and ensuring students' concerns reach university management. I've seen the power of student voices and am determined to continue championing your rights and needs.

My three commitments if elected:
1. Accessibility and Approachability:- I will be accessible at all times, establishing open channels of communication to ensure your concerns reach me. Your voice matters, and I am here to listen.
2. Fearless Advocacy:- I will confront challenges head-on, advocating for your rights. I believe in finding solutions, no matter how tough the situation. @rowan4guildpresident

Hey everyone! I’m Rowan, your current Vice-President of the Guild.

I have enjoyed representing you all so much this year that I have decided to run for Guild President again to continue to represent you all for one more year! Since being elected I have helped to bring back the night bus, showcased many of the Guild’s Societies and have started work on loyalty schemes for the Sphinx as well as work on free graduation gowns.

If re-elected I pledge to finish the work I have already dedicated myself to complete, as well as start work on the following;

  1. Safer Student Nightlife.
    1. I would use the leading research we have at our university to provide drug testing kits for students. These kits could also be used for checking if drinks have been spiked, helping students feel safer on nights out. I would also campaign for harm-reduction educational videos of drug use.
    2. Another campaign in this category would be to get a Night-bus to Kensington, already did it for Smithdown… let’s do it again.
  1. Increasing/Improving events at the Guild.
    1. Having more events take place such as the LJMU x UoL Student Fight Nights, UFC event cards to be streamed (the ones within reasonable hours) and for the Guild to attempt Guinness World Records.
    2. In terms of improving events I would work to re-open the bar in the Cellar as well as set up a games room.
  1. Prioritising Student’s Mental Health.
    1. I would make these services more accessible to students as I personally believe they are hard to find.
    2. I would also review the current waiting list times whilst making this service more streamlined.

Thank you for reading! I hope you vote for me on the 11th March, I won’t let you down!

Vote Charlotte for Guild President! Working with you to make the guild for you...

Hi, I’m Charlotte and I am a current final year law student. I am running for guild president; my student experience has equipped me with ideas that will greatly benefit current and future students at the University of Liverpool. My main aim is to prioritise the voice of the student body and to implement popular suggestions put forward to me.

Both inside and outside of academia, I have worked within roles that have required me to be a strong leader as well as working well within a team, skills that bode well for this role. I hope that my current contributions to the guild, as president of the legal society, have proved that I possess these skills.

Policies

1)Increase library resources to help students during exam season, mainly adding 24-hour pastoral support within a designated room inside each of the libraries during exam season and adding microwaves and other cooking appliances to help students eat fuller meals whilst undertaking assessments.

2)Next, I would like to introduce faculty taster sessions to the university gym and pool. This would be accessible once a month through a four-hour slot. In their slot, students would be allowed to use the facilities free of charge, which will improve well-being, in addition to providing an opportunity for students to socialise with other like-minded individuals they haven’t already met on their course.

3)Finally, I would like to make it easier for societies to plan socials by reducing guild notice requirements for small-scale events to 2.5 weeks and large-scale events down to 7 weeks (with an additional notice requirement of rough event details). This would diversify and increase the overall number of events, allowing for more opportunities for members to connect.

Thank you for your consideration.

YOUR CAMPUS, YOUR SAY!

After three years of actvisim and leadership in the guild through ArabSoc, LivPal, and recently getting elected as one of your NUS delegates, I am running to be YOUR guild president to:

- OFFER BETTER SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS: through more accesible mental health support, preventing deadline and exam stacking, and ensuring everyone gets an adequate break between their January final exams and second semester!

- CHALLENGE COST OF LIVING CRISIS: by providing better and cheaper food options on campus, abolishing circuit fees, and offering better library facilities to make the life of students easier!

- ENSURE ETHICAL INVESTMENT: by lobbying the university to divest from companies afiliated with military products and spend our tuition money to empower people instead of war!

If you want an approachable president who will always make sure your voice is heard, VOTE OTHMAN :)

George Cobham

@george4guild

Vote George Cobham to be your Guild President

I’m George, a third-year law and politics student. I’m running to be Guild President as I believe that change is needed in order to improve the student experience.

My priorities if I'm elected are:

Working with the other unis – Liverpool as a city has 3 universities as well as LIPA and LMA. Many of the issues facing students at our university are also felt by students at the others. If elected, I will work to establish a working group between all of Liverpool’s universities in order to improve our ability to lobby the council and to find collective solutions to these issues. Reinstating the night bus, amongst other things, should not have taken as long as it did. By working collectively with the other universities, we would be able to make more effective change for students in our city.

More volunteering opportunities – It is important that students are seen as having a positive impact in our city. That is why I will work to establish a volunteering system where the guild will host volunteering events, such as student litter picks, and those students that attend will be rewarded with discounts at the guild shop and free pints at the Sphinx.

Creating a work experience bursary – Many students want the opportunity to do some work experience, however many cannot afford it. Those wishing to work in certain sectors will have to go away from Liverpool in order to gain proper experience. This adds a massive cost, which not all students will be able to afford. If I'm elected, I will work with the university to create a bursary, available to all students, to mitigate the cost of gaining work experience. Every student should have to opportunity to boost their employability, and cost should never be an obstacle to that.

Ali Saaed

Students need good teachers, Not good scientists.

Fellow students,

In the pursuit of academic excellence, let us remember the essence of education: good teachers who inspire and empower us. Our slogan, "Students need good teachers, Not good scientists," encapsulates our commitment to prioritizing quality teaching over academic prestige.

Our manifesto revolves around three key principles:

  1. Teacher Empowerment: We pledge to support and invest in our educators, providing them with the resources and professional development they need to excel in their roles.

  2. Student-Centered Learning: We advocate for a personalized approach to education that prioritizes the individual needs and interests of each student, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.

  3. Community Engagement: We aim to foster a sense of community within our university, promoting collaboration and support among students, teachers, and staff through various initiatives and activities.

Together, let us create a university where every student has the opportunity to thrive, learn, and succeed under the guidance of dedicated and passionate educators.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Ali

A Single Vote can change your Student Life in Liverpool!!

Hi, this is your mate Sidharth Chandran from MSc Business Analytics and Big Data standing for the Guild President elections.

I am committed to advocating for the needs and interests of our diverse student body. I believe in fostering a vibrant and inclusive college community that prioritizes academic excellence, personal growth, and student well-being. Through open communication, proactive initiatives, and collaborative partnerships, I aim to enhance the overall college experience for every student. Together, let us create positive change and build a stronger college community.

Policies that I will be working on for my fellow mates:

  1. Apprenticeships and Internships for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students: Getting a tie-up with more corporate industries to provide internships and apprenticeships.
  2. Part Time work opportunities for students: Bringing out the various genuine part time opportunities for students that can help them cut down their living costs and other expenses.
  3. More health & sport facilities in university accommodations: Students pay a huge amount for gym and other sport activities. So, lets make it available at accommodation which can be cheap and help them save time.
  4. Healthy food availability in Guild and more food vans: Tasty and variety of healthy food with different cuisine along with amazing student discounts.
  5. More technology related workshops: Teaching students & conducting workshops for developing more technical skills with the help of experts from industries and experienced students.
  6. Sustainable Initiatives: Recycling programs, energy-efficient practices, and community gardens, to promote environmental awareness.

Let’s make it happen with each one of yours vote for me. Come Up, Vote Down for Sid 😊
