Overview

Career journeys aren’t always planned, but they can in equal measure be interesting, intriguing, inspiring, and yes – sometimes everyday and just a little bit dull. When Rachael began her sustainability journey as an admin assistant with De Montfort University’s renewable energy research team, she didn’t even know how many watts were in a kilowatt. Somehow, she’s now a Director of a leading sustainability consultancy in the housing sector, the non-Exec of a trade association, a co-founder of a 1000-strong international women’s network and – perhaps the biggest surprise of all – the proud recipient of an OBE.

This session is also joined by Rachael Hanmer‑Dwight, Head of Environmental Sustainability and Energy Services at the University, whose sustainability journey was catalysed by a summer internship at Rachael’s consultancy, and has since evolved through a mix of planned and unexpected experiences, all focused on driving environmental change in the higher education sector.

Join us to hear both Rachael’s stories and maybe pick up some sustainability, diversity and leadership tips along the way.
