ButchSoc will be hosting our first monthly book club with a discussion of chapter 1 of Judith Butler's Gender Trouble! This is open to anyone who wants to just read the text and chat about it, those who want to bring notes, and those who might not want to read the text, but still want to get involved :)
This seminal text analyses the concept of gender as a performance, critiquing the concept of gender and sex as a whole. Chapter 1 focuses on the structures that define sex, providing a detailed analysis of power and performance.
For an introduction to the text, these overview resources are great at breaking down Butler's arguments:

- Gender Trouble: Study Guide (Anything labelled part 1 is what we're reading!) - https://www.coursehero.com/lit/Gender-Trouble-Feminism-and-the-Subversion-of-Identity/part-1-chapter-1-summary/
We will also be bringing board games for those who don't want to be in the book club, but still want to come to a weekly social - if anyone has a favourite boardgame they'd like to play, please feel free to bring it along!
