In the face of ongoing cost of living struggles for students, we are committed to offering the practical support, advice and information you need. We recognise that the financial pressures students are facing are so much more than learning how to budget.
Through Essentials, we are offering the Hub (opening November 2026) alongside research and events (coming soon) to support when you need it most, whether you need help accessing essential items, are facing financial difficulties or just need a little extra support.
Essentials Hub
Welcome to the Essentials Hub! In the face of the ongoing cost of living struggles for students, the Essentials Hub offers a place for you to pick up food, drink, childcare, hygiene and household items for free to see you through when you’re struggling to afford the essentials.
The Hub exists to offer support for those students are facing financial difficulties, offer a little extra help when you need it.
How it works:
- Book your ticket now and fill in our questionnaire to let us know about any extra requirements
- Your ticket will be valid to use at any point until 15:00 on Friday in the week you purchased the ticket.
- Students are limited to one ticket per week, which entitles you to 8 food items and 2 non-food items from the Essentials Hub.
- Sustainable Shopper: Please bring your own bag for life and containers where you can
- The Essentials Hub is located by the Mountford Hall, at the Guild Walk entrance to the Guild. Have a look at the Essential Hub opening hours here.

- Monday - 11am – 1pm / 3pm – 6pm
- Tuesday – Closed
- Wednesday – 10am –1pm / 2pm - 4pm
- Thursday – 10am – 12pm / 1pm –4pm
- Friday – 1pm – 3pm
