A President Who Listens, A Guild That Delivers.
Manifesto Question Responses
Why are you running to be an Officer?
This year, I have assembled a team of students who have collaborated with members of the Senior Leadership Team and the current Guild president to establish a new Q&A event with the SLT. Through this process, I have built constructive relationships and gained experience that are vital to leading a Guild that delivers for students.
What qualities would you bring to the role?
I will be approachable and a good listener, leading in a way that encourages students' imagination and input and pairs it with a realistic approach that delivers.
I will bring honesty and compassion, being open about the Guild's progress and challenges whilst empathising with students' concerns.
My experience in leadership, working with my team, the current Guild president and SLT, has taught me that communication, co-operation, creativity and pragmatism are the key to acting on students' needs successfully.
What would be your top 4 priorities, if you were elected?
My top priority is to ensure that students have as much influence as possible on the Guild's aims. I will not decide these changes for you; I will work to create new systems of engagement and discussion, allowing students themselves to set the agenda.
My second priority is ensuring that Guild food is affordable, and I will introduce a loyalty/rewards card that allows students to redeem free food.
My third priority will be advancing the student-led Q&A sessions I have already worked to create, in which student-submitted questions will be presented to members of the SLT, creating an entirely new means of direct communication and engagement with the most important faculty members within the University. This has already had great success through direct correspondence with the Vice-Chancellor, the current Guild president, and other key members of the SLT, making me extremely confident that this and my other priorities can be achieved.
My fourth priority is to create a new society in which students from any department can collaborate on a range of projects and participate in competitions. Students will be able to choose from a range of project-based competitions, such as creating model businesses. This will involve organising a team and may require going abroad, enhancing your CV, especially if you are successful.
