Manifesto Question Responses

Why are you running to be an Officer?

Since being elected your Vice President last March I've been working hard on my manifesto commitments, championing the issues that matter most to you. From running the Guilds biggest ever Cost of Living Survey, meeting with Mayor Steve Rotherham to secure cheaper student transport and launching the Guilds Working Class Students Collective I'm so proud of all my work so far. But now it's time to finish the job and get my campaigns over the line as your next Guild President !

What qualities would you bring to the role?

As Guild President, I bring experience, strong relationships, and a real commitment to students. I’ve built positive working relationships with University staff and management, allowing me to advocate effectively and get things done. I can run large-scale campaigns on campus and across the city to ensure student voices are heard. With strong regional connections and a student-first mindset, I’m focused on breaking down barriers and improving your student experience.

What would be your top 4 priorities, if you were elected?

Cost of Living Support

- Increase Bursaries and extend eligibility criteria.
- On Campus Student 'Essentials' Hub with food insecurity provisions.
- More accessible hardship fund for undergrad & postgrad students.

Cheaper & more Accessible Transport

- Extend the My-Ticket to cover students ( 33% discount once franchising is complete).
- More student friendly bus routes across the region.
- Extension of the night bus into Kensington and more frequent services.

Housing

- Tackle dodgy landlords through increased awareness, support and reporting.
- Lobby nationally for rent caps on student properties.
- Support students through the Renters Rights Act changes.

Harm Reduction Policy

- Lobby the University to introduce a Harm Reduction Drugs and Alcohol policy.
- Free drug purity testing kits through the Guild.
- Better support and services for students facing addiction and substance abuse.
