Manifesto Question Responses

Why are you running to be an Officer?

I am running to be an officer because I want to be the change in the University of Liverpool and the Guild. I want every student to be able to express their opinions about the university and guild as I believe that the voice of the students that make up the university are the most powerful and should always be heard. I know that there can always be positive changes that can be made to the guild and the university, especially as the times and students continue to change. As officer, I will see to it that this change is for the benefit of the university and the guild, as well as its students.

What qualities would you bring to the role?

The qualities I bring to the role include, but are not limited to my strong leadership skills and my passion for creating a space where everyone can feel equal, safe and included. It is very important to bring my level headedness to this role, especially with everything going on around us. I have an optimistic point of view and want to create a positive future for the guild and university. I am a disabled student so I understand the issues that a lot of students face while being disabled in university and through my presidency I want to ensure every student feels respected, heard and included.

What would be your top 4 priorities, if you were elected?

I have chosen four priorities that are based on my experience so far in University. My four priorities are supporting students with fundraising, ensuring clean accommodation, reducing prices across university and finally ensuring free menstrual products to all.

Fundraising
At the moment I am currently fundraising for a charity called Dig Deep, I have heard from a few people that organising a way to fundraise through the university or Guild has not been easy and I would like to make this more accessible as I believe that every student should be able to fundraise for their charity and the guild should hold fundraising events for charities in future. We will achieve this in a number of ways which include bake sales, posters, social media posts, etc.

Clean Accommodation
While living in university accommodation I and others have noticed that accommodation, especially when you first move in, has not been cleaned to a high enough standard. I believe that everyone should be able to move into accommodation without needing to clean immediately. To bring change to this I want to ensure a full check from a respective person in that accommodation to make sure it is clean so no student is moving into a room they do not feel comfortable living in for at least a year. This is because I believe that every student should feel welcomed into a place where they live and study.

Reducing costs
As a fellow student, I understand that every penny counts in saving with the cost of living crisis we are going through. I also know that enough small fees over time build up. During my time in accommodation, I have noticed such expenses and I aim to reduce these as much as I possibly can. If you vote for me, you can expect to see price drops in the guild, e.g. the Union brew. As well as this, I want to reduce the price of laundrettes in University accommodations. After all, rent costs enough without adding £5-10 a week in laundry.

Free menstrual products
Being a female I understand that menstrual products cannot always be accessed and this is why I will ensure menstrual products can be accessed in any restroom on the university premises for all that need to access them and they will be free to access. They will be regularly restocked to ensure there will always be free menstrual products for everyone who needs them.
