Manifesto Question Responses
Why are you running to be an Officer?
It will allow me to bring forward a drive to change and influence university decisions for the better of the students. I want to be one of the representing voices for the students and be able to connect their ideas and concerns with the university as soon as needed.
What qualities would you bring to the role?
I am an approachable, kind and respectful person making me an easy person to talk to. With this quality, students can feel more inclined to talk to me and bring their ideas forward. Furthermore, I am confident and enthusiastic when presenting and putting together events/ideas. This quality could help to host events and campaigns to improve student quality of life.
What would be your top 4 priorities, if you were elected?
I want to aim towards creating a support system for students who are new to living alone and need help budgeting and saving. Since decreasing the cost of accommodations would be a difficult task, I want to start a support network or events where students can talk to staff and other students to find the best ways to save. This can be through budgeting groceries, tips and tricks for washing laundry and much more.
I want to bring about socialising events that do not focus on one hobby/passion. These events will be different to societies as they will not be focused on a specific subject, meaning anyone can join. This can help students connect with different people with different hobbies. It will also help students who cannot commit to societies and need a onetime event to meet new people.
Knowing that not everyone is focused or well informed on global issues affecting them and the UK, I want to bring about frequent summarised updates of important events that have happened. This could lead to having set sessions with staff where students can talk and ask questions about the political state of our country.
Whilst the university celebrates every individual religious or cultural event, I believe there should be more events or information about celebrating diversity. This would inform more people about other cultures and allow people to connect.
