Manifesto Question Responses
Why are you running to be an Officer?
According to NUS research, a third of students are living on less than £50 a month after paying rent and bills. This is unacceptable!
I am running to become a Guild Officer because I believe students deserve more than just kind words. If elected, I will use every tool available to me to bring down the cost-of-living for our members. I will lobby Liverpool City Council for a capped bus fare (no more than £2), fight to increase the hardship fund, and help students tackle dodgy landlords and letting agents.
What qualities would you bring to the role?
My background combines political activism with experience volunteering at the Guild.
In 2023, I helped organise the Boycott Bacardi campaign, educating students about the origins of products we sell in the Guild and recommending ethical alternatives. Last semester, I submitted a petition calling for an all-student referendum on our NUS membership.
Between 2023-24, I volunteered on the Mini Spend-It committee, giving me insight into the financial management of the Guild. During that time, I also served as Decolonise UoL Treasurer. I am currently the Secretary of Left Society.
What would be your top 4 priorities, if you were elected?
1. Cheaper, improved buses for students: I'll lobby Liverpool City Council for a capped student bus fare (no more than £2) and the expansion of the night-bus service to other areas.
2. Making campus more affordable: I will work to increase the university hardship fund while also making it more accessible to students. I'll also research ways to lower the cost of Guild shop items and hot food from the courtyard.
3. Divestment: I fought for BDS in 2024 and will pressure the university end its work with big oil and weapons companies like BAE Systems.
4. Housing rights: I will work with LSH and tenants unions like ACORN to help students tackle exploitation by private landlords and letting agents. For students living in university halls, I will fight for a rent freeze.
