Merseyside Dogs Home was established in February 2013 and works closely with the local dog warden services to take in, rehabilitate and rehome the unclaimed and unwanted stray dogs of Merseyside. We are the only rescue in Merseyside dealing with local lost dogs, relying totally on public support. We receive no government or lottery funding so rely on donations from members of the public to continue our vital work. One big focus of our work is education both in the community and for local dog owners. Staff members visit local schools and educational establishments to talk about responsible pet ownership and we also run our monthly consultation days for any dog owner on Merseyside. But Merseyside Dogs Home isn’t just about helping dogs; it is about helping people as well. We know the importance and benefit of human-dog interaction and have pioneered a ‘pets as therapy’ programme along with a local homeless centre to help vulnerable people’s rehabilitation. The scheme helps people who are in need of support to give them hope and purpose through interaction with the rescue dogs.
