Ecobricks Project

Details Hide[-]

What are ecobricks?

Ecobricks are bricks made of non-recyclable plastic (think crisp packets, cellophane) packed into plastic bottles to a set density which can then be used as a building material.

There are many benefits to making ecobricks, both environmental and social:

  • Removes plastic waste from the land and sea
  • Reuses plastic locally rather than sending it long distances for recycling - the UK sends a large amount of plastic recycling to China!
  • Avoids pollution and energy intensive process of plastic recycling
  • Reduces the environmental pollution from traditional
  • Raise awareness of plastic pollution problem
  • A low tech solution - easy and accessible
  • Turns building into an opportunity for a community project

Find out more about ecobricks at: https://www.ecobricks.org/

This volunteering opportunity is an excellent chance to build a network of students concerned with plastic waste. You can meet likeminded students and work together to create ecobricks, and discuss ideas for reducing plastic waste. If enough ecobricks are created they can be used to make projects around the University.
